Wonders of Willapa

Join us Saturday at 6 p.m. at Tarlatt Slough, and listen to the night at the Wonders of Willapa. Bring your friends and family with flashlights and binoculars to hike the Tarlatt trail. Along the way meet experts from the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge; learn about local history from the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum; meet Aaron Webster as he presents “Large Mammals; Black Bear, Elk and Deer;” talk to bird migration specialist Ben Welton, the Burd Nurd, as he presents Meals of Mud along with several exceptional bird mounts; and view the night sky with Bob Duke’s powerful telescope and see our galaxy as you have never seen it before. Southwest Washington’s Long Beach Peninsula: home to a new national park, two historic lighthouses, renowned restaurants, cranberry bogs, and oyster farms.

Make a weekend out of it! Start off with Blues and Seafood at the Port of Ilwaco and then head north for Jazz & Oysters in Ocean Park

BS Blues and Seafood

Ilwaco’s Blues and Seafood event is sure to please with an exciting lineup of Blues artists! This year’s event features Billy D and the Hoodoos to kick off Friday Night’s All Star Jam at 5PM. Friday’s lineup will also include Lisa Mann & Her Really Good Band, followed by Albert Cummings to wrap up the nights’ entertainment. Doors open at 4:30.

Saturday kicks off with Blind Wolf, followed by North Coast Blues, who will be bringing the Cadillac Horns along to help blow the roof off. Franco Paletta & the Stingers will follow, and the original NW Boogie Cat, Norman Sylvester, is back by popular demand and promises to have everyone up and on their feet, dancing the night away! Saturday wraps up this awesome event with The Heartbreakers, featuring a terrific line up of the Northwest’s greatest female blues singers. On Saturday, doors open at 12:30 with music starting at 1PM.

Delight your palate with local seafood, regional microbrews and wines, and barbecued oysters fresh from our very own Willapa Bay. Head down to the Port of Ilwaco, August 15 & 16, 2014 and enjoy two days of live Blues! Tickets may be purchased online, at the Long Beach Peninsula Visitors Bureau, or at the event. Tickets are $15 for Friday night and $25 for all day Saturday. Two-day tickets for Friday & Saturday are $35. Blues and Seafood is partnering with Jazz & Oysters to offer a special combination ticket for $55.

JOJazz & Oysters

What pairs well with Blues and Seafood? Jazz & Oysters of course! This year’s lineup includes Cherie Blues, a Seattle-based band whose tastes run from jazz, blues, and R&B to swing and standards. The Cory Weeds Quartet is bound to keep toes tapping to jazz rhythms as they will also be featured in this years’ show. The annual event rounds up a great weekend of live music, seafood and culture on the Peninsula! Bring your lawn chair or blanket, some sunscreen and join other jazz fans for a day of great music and fabulous food complete with local oysters, desserts, drinks, and an array of sausages and other tasty tidbits. The festivities are from 12-5:30PM at Wilson Field in Ocean Park, August 17, 2014. Tickets are available online and  at the event. $25 for adults, $10 for children ages 10-18, children under age 6 are free. Active Duty Military and their dependents get in free.

You can purchase tickets for each event separately OR you may purchase a combination ticket for  a full weekend package that includes Friday and Saturday at Blues and Seafood in Ilwaco and Sunday at Jazz & Oysters in Ocean Park for only $55.

Happy 116th Anniversary, North Head Lighthouse!

Celebrating 116 Years of Standing Watch over the Confluence

The Keepers of the North Head Lighthouse and Washington State Parks invite the public to celebrate the 116th anniversary of the North Head Lighthouse in Cape Disappointment State Park on Saturday, June 7, from 11AM to 3PM.

June 7-8 is a “Free Day” at all Washington State Parks – no Discover Pass required in honor of National Trails Day. Parking near the lighthouse is limited. Additional parking will be available at the parking lot adjacent to Cape Disappointment Campground Store, the home of Serious Pizza,  with a free shuttle service providing transportation to the lighthouse and back.

Come and enjoy refreshments, a self-guided tour of the Lighthouse Keepers home, live music from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, two bird sighting tours, museum exhibits, and even a gift shop. No Discovery Pass required!  Tours of the lighthouse are $2.50 for adults, with children ages 7-17 free. Children must be at least 7 years old to take the tour of the lighthouse. Flip flops are not permitted to be worn on tours of the Lighthouse.

In addition to the Washington State Parks Free Day, it is also a Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife Free Fishing Weekend! Head for your favorite angling spot, no license required!
