OTC – Deep Canyon Challenge

This year’s Oregon Tuna Classic – Deep Canyon Challenge will feature TWO FULL DAYS OF FISHING. Fishing begins at 7:30AM on Friday, August 1, with a required check-in time by 4:00PM. Friday night there will be a mandatory 7:00 PM Captains meeting at the Port of Ilwaco. Saturday starts early with a 6:00AM shot gun start just across the Columbia River bar with a required check-in time by 5:00PM. The fun continues Saturday evening with a huge BBQ, auction, and the final results of the weekends’ activities. August 1-2

The 8th Annual Jake the Alligator Man Celebration kicks off with his annual Bachelor Party and Burlesque show Friday, August 1. Doors open at 6PM at the Elks in downtown Long Beach, this is a show for the 21 and older crowd. There is a $10 cover and dinner and drinks will be available for purchase. Expect to have a great time and enjoy the live music and entertainment to the theme of Fiesta! Enjoy Jake’s Birthday Celebration on Saturday August 2. The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco is proud to announce the opening of their latest show “We’re Still Here – The Survival of Washington Indians.” Come learn the fascinating and continuing story of Native American people in Washington. Rare images and colorful artifacts will tell the compelling history and personal stories. An installation of paintings, drawings, and carvings will also be on display that draws upon long, local history of the Chinook Tribe and their important presence within our community.  Through September 28

Old Fashioned 4th of July Parade

The annual Old Fashioned 4th of July Parade in Ocean Park begins at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 4. Bring your kids and their bicycles to the Bank of Pacific parking lot in Ocean Park by noon. This is a wonderful parade enjoyable for all ages. Members of the Peninsula Arts Association will hand out sidewalk chalk so everyone can draw their own masterpiece.

Head to Art in the Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sheldon Park, located at 258th and Vernon Ave. in Ocean Park. Come taste some great food and see artwork from local artisans.

Oysterville Artisan Fair

The fourth annual Artisan Fair is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 4 and July 5 at the Oysterville Schoolhouse. This event features a variety of artwork by local artists and includes an art raffle as well. Come join in all the fun!

The City of Long Beach will host their annual fireworks display on July 4th, just after dark off of the Bolstad Beach Approach in Long Beach.

Beach Clean Up

Saturday, July 5, is beach clean up day! More than 1,000 volunteers are needed to come out and join the organized one-day cleanup. Volunteers will be stationed at all the major beach approaches at 9:30 a.m. to hand out bags and help direct volunteers where their help is most needed.

Firecracker 5k

Run or walk the third annual Firecracker 5K on Saturday, July 5. The race starts at the Port of Ilwaco and is notable for being extremely challenging and beautiful as it climbs up to the Cape Disappointment headlands on the south end of the Discovery Trail and back. Perfect for those who love to sprint up and fly down steep hills, the race starts at 9AM. You may register the morning of the race.

Feel the Thunder!

The fireworks continue at the Port of Ilwaco as they host a more relaxed gathering, touted as “Feel the Thunder!” This all-ages show is Saturday, July 5th starting at approximately 9:30 p.m.. Bring your chairs and blankets and settle in for the beautiful display reflected over the harbor. There is plenty of free parking.
