OTC – Deep Canyon Challenge

This year’s Oregon Tuna Classic – Deep Canyon Challenge will feature TWO FULL DAYS OF FISHING. Fishing begins at 7:30AM on Friday, August 1, with a required check-in time by 4:00PM. Friday night there will be a mandatory 7:00 PM Captains meeting at the Port of Ilwaco. Saturday starts early with a 6:00AM shot gun start just across the Columbia River bar with a required check-in time by 5:00PM. The fun continues Saturday evening with a huge BBQ, auction, and the final results of the weekends’ activities. August 1-2

We’ve Got the Blues, Jazz, Seafood & Oysters too!

Make a weekend out of it! Start off with Blues and Seafood at the Port of Ilwaco and then head north for Jazz & Oysters in Ocean Park

Ilwaco’s Blues and Seafood event is sure to please with an exciting lineup of Blues artists! This year’s event features Billy D and the Hoodoos to kick off Friday Night’s All Star Jam at 5PM. Friday’s lineup will also include Lisa Mann & Her Really Good Band, followed by Albert Cummings to wrap up the nights’ entertainment. Doors open at 4:30.

Saturday kicks off with Blind Wolf, followed by North Coast Blues, who will be bringing the Cadillac Horns along to help blow the roof off. Franco Paletta & the Stingers will follow, and the original NW Boogie Cat, Norman Sylvester, is back by popular demand and promises to have everyone up and on their feet, dancing the night away! Saturday wraps up this awesome event with The Heartbreakers, featuring a terrific line up of the Northwest’s greatest female blues singers. On Saturday, doors open at 12:30 with music starting at 1PM.

Delight your palate with local seafood, regional microbrews and wines, and barbecued oysters fresh from our very own Willapa Bay. Head down to the Port of Ilwaco, August 15 & 16, 2014 and enjoy two days of live Blues! Tickets may be purchased online, at the Long Beach Peninsula Visitors Bureau, or at the event. Tickets are $15 for Friday night and $25 for all day Saturday. Two-day tickets for Friday & Saturday are $35. Blues and Seafood is partnering with Jazz & Oysters to offer a special combination ticket for $55.

What pairs well with Blues and Seafood? Jazz & Oysters of course! This year’s lineup includes Cherie Blues, a Seattle-based band whose tastes run from jazz, blues, and R&B to swing and standards. The Cory Weeds Quartet is bound to keep toes tapping to jazz rhythms as they will also be featured in this years’ show. The annual event rounds up a great weekend of live music, seafood and culture on the Peninsula! Bring your lawn chair or blanket, some sunscreen and join other jazz fans for a day of great music and fabulous food complete with local oysters, desserts, drinks, and an array of sausages and other tasty tidbits. The festivities are from 12-5:30PM at Wilson Field in Ocean Park, August 17, 2014. Tickets are available online and  at the event. $25 for adults, $10 for children ages 10-18, children under age 6 are free. Active Duty Military and their dependents get in free.

The Washington State International Kite Festival is a week-long kite celebration and competition held annually during the third full week of August. Starting on Monday and ending on Sunday, this beautiful festival boasts skies ablaze with color, high flying action and choreographed movement.

Washington’s Kite Festival draws famous kite fliers from all around the world, and tens of thousands awed spectators, many of whom participate in the fun with their own kite flying adventures.

This week not only features kites, but also attracts many vendors offering interesting and tasty treats and treasures. Friday night features lighted kites and a beautiful display of fireworks.

Monday – Kite Trains – Arches – Multi-Line Stacks, & Fighter Kites. Watch the kite trains disappear into the clouds!

Tuesday – Terrific Territories, Totally Tubular, Individual and Team Rokkaku Battles. Experience the thrill of kites battling to knock each other out of the sky!

WednesdayPaint me Patriotic, today is Children’s and Senior’s Day! Enjoy the plethora of activities and camps for kids and get out on the flying field and celebrate the 10th Annual Foster Grandparent Fun Fly!

ThursdayHandcrafted Comprehensive Competition, Water Creatures in the Sky Mega Fly! Following tradition, a tribute fly is held annually to recognize the contributions of kite makers that have had an impact in the Northwest. Join in on the Pennell Tribute Fly!

Pacific County Fair

Featuring blue-ribbon pies, 4H exhibits, amusements, and tempting treats, the fair promises all the charm of a traditional county fair.
